A Hard Look at Recycling

March 24, 2022

It’s hard to hear that recycling is not the solution we want it be but that’s what this recent article from The Atlantic is asking us to understand.  Although recycled materials do reduce the use of more virgin materials and require less energy to produce, for many reasons recycling is limited. Not enough materials are recycled, too many products are not actually recyclable—though they may seem to be in the eyes of a consumer, it can be used as a distraction from focusing on more substantive changes, and it can perpetuate consumption rather than prioritizing reuse and reduction.

The take away is not to give up—keep recycling all that you can!  The take away is go beyond recycling and look for more ways to make a difference.

In her 2019 Ted Talk “The Future of Business is Circular” our Co-Founder, Nicole Bassett, said, “We are all part of the system. Our choices made it possible. Our choices can make it change.”
