Meet the Team: Sew Technician Kim

October 02, 2020

Name: Kim Nelson

Role: Sew Technician

Why do you work at The Renewal Workshop?

I enjoy being part of a company that strives for sustainability—performing and teaching—and actually cares about this poor ol’ planet.  Also knowing that not everyone has the opportunity to work for companies like TRW makes it very meaningful and gives me pride to be part of showing that companies can care about things other than their bottom line and keeping the status quo.  It is a huge plus that TRW has a place for my artistic and technical skills and encourages me to grow with them.  I have been creating and crafting since before I can remember—drawings to sculptural—sewing just naturally filled that sculptural three-dimensional workspace for me.

What’s your favorite Renewed item?

The North Face Remade! I love visible repairs and items that have been redone, so the whole Remade line; it just feeds this creativity inside of me and all the better that the only new material involved is thread.  Although my current dilemma is that I now have too many boxes of scraps from taking garments apart.

Do you have a tip, trick, or advice to share with others living circular?

Always carry duct tape.  Kidding aside, always be willing to learn, grow and change and not necessarily in that order!  Inform yourself and be ready to accept that information can change.  We are facing some crazy and unfortunate times right now and the best way I deal with it is keeping informed and a willingness to sacrifice comforts to hopefully help out others.
