Stronger Community

March 24, 2022

In Amsterdam, the home of The Renewal Workshop’s European factory, there is a self-sustaining community called Schoonschip. It is comprised of about 100 residents living in a floating neighborhood of houseboats. Although there are a lot of different people living in Schoonschip, they have one value in common: a commitment to living sustainably tied to the desire to share in the social aspects of that commitment.

Inhabit interviewed a few of the residents who revealed their experiences living in the village. They discuss sharing ideas and innovations as well as being open and helpful to their neighbors. The take-away seems to show that the community thrives not only because of its low environmental impact but because the residents have chosen to be supportive of each other.

Just another reminder of the amazing things we can achieve when we do it together.
