The Renewal Process: Cleaning
Over the last few weeks we've had time to look at things through a different lens and rediscover the things we value. At The Renewal Workshop, we value our growing family of employees and brand partners. The reason we are a family is we all share a desire to do what's good and right for the planet. Our way of doing what's good is by creating Circular solutions to renew apparel and textile products.
That last sentence may need some further explanation. So, in our next few communications, we will share with you how Renewed works inside and outside of our factory.
Renewed products come from a larger pool of returned items, damaged items, customer take-back programs or other production sources. Each item goes through a unique Renewal Process inside our factory to ensure a high-quality product for our customers. All of our Renewed products go through our six-stage certification process to ensure you get a high-quality product that meets our standards that are aligned with our brand partners.
The first stage of the process is cleaning. We take clean seriously! It's one of the things you can always count on.
For most products we utilize Tersus Solutions, the world’s most advanced waterless cleaning technology. Tersus harnesses the gentle cleaning properties of liquid CO2 to remove oils, particulates, and odor that degrade the useful life of apparel. It’s a closed-loop system where the CO2 starts out as a gas and is compressed to a liquid. Once in liquid form it runs similar to your home washing machine, using an environmentally safe detergent through cleaning and rinsing cycles. At the end of the process, the pressure is released and the CO2 turns back into a gas. It eliminates the need for water, thus using fewer natural resources and produces no effluent. Because no heat is used, the garments are protected against shrinkage and fiber degradation.
Items that cannot be cleaned in the Tersus are washed in commercial grade washing machines or cleaned by hand—as is the case for totes and bags. Every single piece of Renewed product is washed to a clean as new standard.
After cleaning, the product is re-inspected by our Quality Lead and approved for the next stage of Renewal. Through each step of the process, our goal is to honor the standards of our brand partners and to provide a product that you, the renewed consumer, will cherish and enjoy.
