Words That Inspire

March 24, 2022

We expected 2021 to be an improvement over last year but given the varied events that have unfolded in just the first month and a half, it has been difficult to stay positive. So where do we find those pieces of optimism that will help us to keep going?  A phrase that has been on repeat in my brain recently provides a weighty nugget of hope:

For there is always light,

If only we are brave enough to see it.

If only we are brave enough to be it.

You will likely recognize these words spoken by the 22-year old National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman in her Inauguration poem, “The Hill We Climb.” Her powerful words offered inspiration to a nation that had been shaken. Interestingly, her inspiration is found not just from her own experience but from the words of so many others. Amanda Gorman was recently interviewed by Michelle Obama and in the majority of her answers she talks about just that.

Words are powerful and can offer so much to us in difficult times. So keep listening.  Listen to artists like Amanda Gorman, to people who lead with grace, to people in your community as well those outside of it, and find that bit of light that will move you forward.
